The Book of Prayers (Գիրք Աղօթից), by Saint Ephrem, in Classical Armenian, first appeared in print in Constantinople in 1734. Over the next two centuries, it became one of the most circulated and reprinted works in Classical Armenian, with at least 20 editions published from the 18th to the early 20th centuries. Its popularity spread across the Near East, with reprints in Tiflis, Shushi, New Nakhichevan, and Jerusalem, where the Armenian Patriarchate issued six editions between 1848 and 1933. In the century since, however, the book has undergone a decline in prominence.
